Gordon’s Last Bite At The Clubhouse Sports Grille – Monroe, Ohio

Clubhouse Sports Grille Salad

Even knowing full well that my fat friends were planning a group visit to The Clubhouse Sports Grille in Monroe, Ohio this coming Friday, I was powerless to resist a text that came in Tuesday night as I was leaving work. The text simply said “I see beer in the near future”. To me that is almost the perfect text, lacking only the details of the time and place. Once those details were confirmed I soon found myself at The Clubhouse Sports Grille in Monroe.

This was far from my first time there, so I knew exactly what to expect, and I gladly went. I needed a drink!

I arrived shortly after 6:00 p.m. and joined a few friends at the bar. To my surprise, the place was really empty. At most during my time there I saw four tables in use.

beerAs has always been my experience, the service was very good, and the staff very friendly.

That being said, when I ran into Vinny and Lucas this morning I put the brakes on the group visit  this Friday.

I could not hold back any longer, my mind had been made up! There was no reason for the group to go. This was not the place for my teetotalling fat friends.

Don’t get me wrong.  It’s a great place to drink, they have a nice atmosphere, friendly service, and tasty appetizers… But the entrees are only so, so and it’s expensive for what you get!

In hindsight it was the $9.00 Fish Sandwich  that pushed me over the edge. It was most likely the $9.00 Chicken Cesar Salad that drove me to the edge the week prior. With the Fish Sandwich, it was just a bland,  ”average” sized, filet on some pretty bread. It did come with chips, but fries were $1.00 extra. The Chicken Cesar Salad had a great flavor. But as you can see from the picture, there was just not much to it.  In both cases I left hungry and wondering what I could eat next. Perhaps that’s a downside of being fat, but it is what it is.

So as I told Vinny and Lucas this morning, that’s all you need to know about The Clubhouse Sports Grille. Decent, but just too expensive for what you get.

  1. I’m a regular at clubhouse and I personally love the place. I think their food is very good and prices are reasonable. I’ve never had the fish sandwhich or any salads so I can’t speak to those but I love their wings. Everything is cooked fresh and it really shows. The food quality is too notch. Just my opinion.

  2. Agree.. mostly. I loved the taste of that salad. Love the appetizers. Just thinking the sandwich, and more so the salad, was really undersized for the money. 50 cents worth of more lettuce would have made all the difference in the world. But I’ll be back for sure. Just going to stick with beer & wings : )

P.S. Contrary to recent rumors. I am not cheap. I’ve spent right at $20 on each of the least five visits (And I mean just my order)

  3. I must say that I am a also a regular at Clubhouse and I must disagree on many of the points made in the previous story. I found the service to be top notch, the food is consistent and filling, and the specials that the business had implicated since their opening have been exceptional. I have not found another business in the area which runs a lunch special with a beverage for $7, with homemade soups, salads and sandwiches. I also give a great rating for the happy hour specials which include selected appetizers and drink specials which are also a great value. The fact they are also running daily drink specials is also refreshing. I have also been there for the live entertainment and trivia that has been offered, I must say that I find it wonderful that a business is offering so much to the residents of Monroe, which was much needed in this area. There are many signature appetizers and sandwiches that are becoming favorites of the customers. They have also offered a few nightly dinner specials, which have been a great value for the money. I would ask that before any assumptions or opinions are made that all areas of this business be considered.
The bartenders and service staff are exceptional and the menu and the consistency of the food speaks loud and clear to those of us that have waited for such a restaurant to hit our area. We look forward to the summer months and to see what else Clubhouse Sports Grille has in store for all of us.
